Yes they can and very easily. When you are starting to scan the software leads you through a very simple process to set up files on your computer. You have the choice also of scanning the reverse of the photo to record any notes etc on those. It's a great little machine

Q: Can I scan direct to memory stick

No, there is no Memory stick port on the printer, only a USB connection to a computer. WiFi works well too. You need the Epson software installed on the computer to be able to use it.
