Great Paper
I bought this paper as I've read you can get amazing results with it using colored pencil. I liked how it worked with CP; however I really became enamored with it while playing with pastels. I think it is better suited for pastel work. I love the tooth, it isn't too gritty has a fairly smooth feel to it and the hard back will make it easy to mat/frame. I'm probably not doing CP work on this support correctly, but I sure like the outcome with pastels. And the tooth won't eat up your CP as much as regular sanded paper. It's worth the price.

Clairfontaine pastelmat was a little difficult to get used at first.
Clairfontaine pastelmat was a little difficult to get used at first. but once I did, I found it to be superior material for pastel art work. It is a little difficult to blend pastel on pastelmat the way I normally did with Uart. It is better to use the pan pastel spreader than pipe foam insulation that I normally used on Uart. The pastel really sticks well to pastelmat and the colors seem bright and less prone to smudging. Pastelmat is velvety to the touch rather than like sandpaper. I am very pleased with the results and highly recommend it.

Wonderful, but a bit hard on the wallet
I purchased this to use primarily for colored pencil animal portraits due to multiple recommendations. Although I was a little leery of the price and the thought of grinding down my Faber Castell Polychromos on what sounded essentially like fine grit sandpaper, I gave it a try. I will say that it does eat your pencils very quickly. In fact, I busted out some largely unused pan pastels just to fill in the grit a tiny bit so I could reserve the pencils for the finer detail work. But after a whole year of using smooth Strathmore paper, I realized I missed doing light over dark techniques. The pastelmat will take whatever you throw at it including light over dark, and is a nice treat for colored pencil.

Great quality, thicker mat is easy to work on.
Wonderful surface for holding multiple layers of pastel or pencil, great quality. Feels soft... Only one drawback, a bit difficult to erase on, so be sure of your sketch and composition. Wish more sizes would be more available to get at regular prices on Amazon, will have to order more on an artist specific website.

Great for medium soft pastels, colored pencils
This is Palette #1. The Pastelmat surface works beautifully for medium soft pastels such as Gireault, as well as colored pencils and wax pastels, and blending with fingers is painless. This palette contains light grey, dark grey, buttercup and maize pages. I took one star off for two reasons: #1, the light grey may as well be white. #2, Blick packs the paper by placing it in the bottom of an oversized box and tops it off with some bubble wrap, so that the paper pad is free to slide. They ship with UPS, which generally ignores the word "Fragile." I have previously received damaged pads, but was lucky this time.

Pastelmat was nice to use.
I liked Clairefontaine pastelmat. I was surprised that there was much less pastel dust than when using sanded art paper. It could take a lot of layers, but it does seem to get saturated and I couldn't add more detail. Even with that, I liked it a lot and will purchase it again.

Perfect surface for pastels
The only paper I like to use doesn’t eat soft pastels and can still do many layers

Love this paper!
Pastelmat clairefontaine is simply the best paper for pastels. Low dust, enough "tooth" to layer lots of color.

Lovely textured paper
I'm relatively new to pastel painting and it can be really overwhelming trying to learn about all of the available products but this paper comes highly recommended by some of the best artists, so I thought it would be good to try. This is my first time using sanded pastel paper and I am really pleased with the results. Can't wait to begin another painting. It is more expensive than some of the textured papers but I feel it is definitely worth it. It is also sturdier than paper. I did a wet underpainting first and it curled a little but I was able to flatten it again after it dried. It's actually a lovely texture to pastel paint on.

Expensive but quality!
Expensive but does work well at holding the pastel and taking lots of layers.

Buenisimo
Puedes poner muchas capas de color. Claro sobre oscuro y viceversa. Eso te permite hacer mejores trabajos y también corregir errores. Le da una gran calidad al trabajo terminado. Es muy bueno para las pinturas pastel.

Great product for oil pastellists too!
I have other sand paper for oil pastel which is perfect for impressionist style on general and landscapes or still natures! But for a smooth texture portrait it is better to use pastelmat for its easy oil pastel applications with buttery fingers under, in order for realism effect can be achieved with this paper! The texture is like vinyl with small tooth and it feel slippery when we are using hight quality oil pastels such as Sennelier to sculpt a human or animal face and fine features! Yes, this is the best paper that I had ever used and I will do others ordering for sure! So I am more than satisfied about this product!
