Great finance advice BUT there is an updated 2020 edition
Finance has been an area that I ignored for a long time because I found it unbearably boring. It also seemed like something that I could not do that much about. I was always careful with budgeting and managed to save up a buffer. I thought my efforts would be better spent on advancing my career. However, now that I’m in my thirties, I thought that I should at least read something about personal finance to check that I’m on the right track. This book was consistently recommended for novices to personal finance like me who have no strong interest in the matter. The book turned out to fit this bill perfectly. It was very readable for such a dull subject. It also contained very concrete advice and even digested that advice down to a simple 6-week action plan. I especially liked the no-nonsense attitude of the author who recognises that there are a lot of things the reader would rather do than delve into the minutiae of financial matters. I was also pleasantly surprised by how well the book had been localised. It is still obvious that the book was written for the American market, but the advice has been adapted to be appropriate for the UK market. Altogether, the book made me feel much more in control of my finances. For that reason alone, the book is well worth the time investment. There is only one major caveat. When I looked for the title of the book, the top result was for the 2010 edition, which is the edition I bought and read. Subsequently, Amazon kindly recommended the 2020 edition to me. I assume that quite a few things have changed in the last 10 years and I would have liked to read the latest edition. So, if you consider buying the book, you might want to check which edition you are ordering.

I wish I'd read this when I graduated... 20 years ago...
This book has brilliant, simple and clear ideas and course of actions to take to avoid falling into debt, to clear existing debt, to save money, to invest money, to negotiate a salary rise, to budget for targeted expenditure etc...There are many personal finance books that give macro level views toward personal finance, but this gets right down to the nitty-gritty of the matter. From Credit-card to investing in stock market; choosing your bank account to budgeting for a wedding, this book takes you step-by-step through it all.My only reason for not giving it the full 5* treatment, is that the advice in it is US-Centric and I'd like something that would match the UK.

got bored and then went and watched Game of Thrones
I've read many books on finance. When I say many I mean I've read a few pages, got bored and then went and watched Game of Thrones. This book however, is excellent. Ramit is hilarious in the way he point blank explains things and within a few pages, made me realise that I have been wasting my hard earned cash away. With simple and easy to understand techniques, he guides you through a full proof method of how to sort your life out and get your financial life back on track and with hard work and discipline, you can come out on the other side with a sizable amount of cash.I recommend this book to anyone like myself, who lives a hectic lifestyle, and is constantly in their overdrafts at the end of the month from just being an idiot with money and who thought he could become a millionaire over night by purchasing penny shares hoping to wake up the next day to find they had went from 5p to £5 per share (this does not happen) Also if you are a god saver I also recommend this book as it has some great tips.Kudos Ramit, you most certainly have changed my life.

Excellent Book
I came across Ramits blog one day after having financial difficulty for a long time. Distrusting automatically the scammy sounding name I decided to read the content and I was blown away by a lot of the simple counter intuitive advice on personal finance and even making money (read his best £20 you'll ever spend post and I guarantee you'll buy this book) It's helped me with my finances and I'm going on a foreign holiday in a couple of weeks for the first time in 8 years because the book helped me so much. And even the books he recommends are great and helpful in starting business's. So I tell you to go out and read this book even if you think you are financially smart this book is an eye opener to the type of finances and money you should be having not what you do have and advice on improving your career and money making (not just money saving) skills too.So I 100% recommend people to go out there and buy it

Most motivating finance book I've ever read
I read Ramit's original version of this book in 2009 and it prompted me to start a pension. 10 years on, he again prompted me to get a credit card for the first time in 7 years to build some credit history, to switch to a bank account with no charges and to move my pension fund (which I only have thanks to his original book) to another company with lower fees. In short, his advice has actually gotten me to act, which is rare even though I've read a lot of other finance books in my time! If you follow this six week plan with actionable steps, you WILL get results. Try it.

Book arrived damaged
Great book, but it arrived slightly damaged. To be expected from a paperback, however would wish this would come in a better condition.

Great tips. A good read.
I bought this book with the knowledge that all books profess to make you rich in one way or another. This one gives you some great tips to stay on track of your finances but not on how to become rich, unfortunately.Follow these simple instruction and you cannot go wrong, though. You will reduce your debts and gain some knowledge on other ways to save & invest. If you are young, maybe you"ll be rich by the time you retire but if you are older then pay off them debts and hope for the best.

Best personal finance book. EVER!
Absolutely brilliant. Who knew I could afford to save a large amount, certainly not me! Ramit, although at some points can be a bit cringy, he clearly knows his stuff and explains in a way that is easy to understand and without all the confusing jargon. Definitely the best personal finance book I've even bought, and I will be keeping it for years to come. Would be brilliant as a gift for those looking to sort out their finances or who are stuggling to make ends meet.
