Q: I there an empty ram slot in the unit? could you add 8 gb more to the ram?

Upgrading the ram was easy. There is a fan on the motherboard that swivels up (no screws) and there are two ram slots under it. I upgraded mine with two 16gb modules (32gb total) The graphics are actually pretty decent too! I tried it with Secondlife/OpenSim and it is more than adequate. It's a pretty nice little macine. :)

Q: Could you upgrade the cpu to something like a amd ryzen™ 5 4600g?

The 4600G will fit the AM4 socket in this machine, but the motherboard is AMD B350 FCH and might not support it. As others suggest, perhaps flash the BIOS to the latest and give it a try. But knowing HP they won't publish a beta to support the newer chip since this isn't an "enthusiast" platform. The 2400G is Raven Ridge core while the 4600G is Renoir core. I had this same problem on an MSI motherboard...tried replacing the 2400G with a 5700G but MSI hadn't upgraded the BIOS to support Cezanne core. So I had to get a newer motherboard.
